EC to PA to OR

My (American) friend from Ecuador, originally from Pennsylvania (hates it) but at BU (loves it) will be visiting me at the beginning of the summer! I have made a tenative list of things we'll be doing, but this is going to require more thought.

Suggestions on "Oregonian" things to do?

Things I've considered:
Astoria column (very phallic)
beach (depends on weather, but still fun)
cherry picking - or whatever's in season (Hood River)
Painted Hills - (eastern Oregon)

Portland, of course, perhaps Powells and that area (Sparticus!)...

I'm thinking we'll have about 5 days... :)

Multnomah falls are amazing, as is crater lake. If they're really badass, the ape caves are really cool, but they can be thought of as a 2 or 3 day excursion in themselves (lava caves of Mt. Saint Helens.)

I'm sad that no one said Voodoo Donuts, even though they might be starting into overhyped status by now.

We are over 21! Thanks for the suggestions! The idea is to give her the best idea of different things OR has got, so I'm aiming for places I can either get to in a day or, if they are really cool, two days. I'm open to anything else, too...I've got at least a couple weeks before I have to start hammering down the itinerary! :)
