let's do math!

$ to be spent:

Current savings: not much
On campus job for spring term: currently non-existant

(-) Books (Feb): $250?
(-) Credit card bill (Feb): $100
(-) Sorority fees (Feb-May): $140 down + events/expenses
(-) Car insurance payment (April): $300
(-) Amount to give to my parents for spring term: $500
(- ?) Jan term abroad for 2009 (Spain, Chile, or Japan/Korea) - $5000 plus personal expenses (if my plane ticket is covered, as my adviser says)
___________________________________________________________

Theoretical options:

(+/-) Keeping on with current job at $8.25 for max of 16 (shitty) hrs a weekend, minus transportation costs but free food and money saved on not having a life...

vs.

(+/-) Looking for an on-campus job/off campus seasonal swim lesson teacher position, scrimping and saving, but being able to have a limited (financially) social life

i think 16 hours out of your week is gonna leave you more than enough time to "have a life..."

i work twice that and take 16 credits at school and i'm still here bsing on elowel... if you want more money it's probably not much of a sacrifice to stay on.

The thing is I'll be commuting one hour to my home town, where I will be staying with my parents...and as much as I love them, I don't consider them "having a life". Due to the shifts I'll presuambly be working (computer won't let me choose) I will be in my hometown from Fri afternoon to Sunday morning at the least. Not much time for socializing on campus, in my mind, when I get back, and the more homework I do during the work week the better so I can actually relax at home if I need to.

Other people never fail to amaze me with how many credits they are taking and their work hours, but I have never worked that much during school. nor is this a job I enjoy, take pride in, or find helpful to my career in any way. I am glad you can handle a 30+ hour work week, 16 credits, and other activities; I'm not sure I could.

oh commuting for your job makes a big difference! definitely get a job on or near campus... i think i can handle all the stuff i do because i like my job and work/school are both in the same town (generally). if you can get more than one job or wrangle more hours out of a job at school, that'd probably be your best bet. :]
